The New School at Argjahamri

The school at Argjahamri  was  officially handed to the Torshavn Municipality on the 14th July 2011. The school – being a state of the art building - is the pride of Tórshavn and has also become a role model for the future generation of Faroese schools.

Following a prequalification 5 companies were invited to tender for the school and on the 4th July 2008 Articon became the successfull tenderer. The building owners insisted in using the parterning scheme which was contained in the Partnering Scheme contract of 10th October 2008.

The arcitects choosen were the MAP company.

The school is constructed with the most modern techniques including energy saving to the highest level. Also great care has been taken with respect to sound level and lightning in order to achieve a pleasent and comfortable sorrounding for the teachers and pupils.

The school is constructed with two tracks for pupils in the 1-9 classes as well as an smaller afterschool. The size of the school is 7.000 square metres able to accomodate up to 450 pupils and 50 teachers.

In accordance with the Faroese school legalislation the school is divided into three educational facilities, each in its faculty whilst the fourth building is a double gymnastic hall. Each educational building is a separate unit with recreation areas for the teachers. Special teaching and the Administration is located below the educational part united by a set of stairs. The four buildings again are united with group facilities with a front hall and meeting hall.

The work was commenced on the 20th May 2009. Articon co-operated with companies like Install, Demich, Inntakt, Paiting company Ansgar  Hansen and the flooring company of Gólvbúna

The co-operation with all parties involved went particularly well and with great satisfaction of the supervising body and indeed the owner of the Argja School,namely Tórshavn Municipality.
